Herman was born in Limpopo from a Royal Family. His grandfather was a Chief of a tribe in Ribolwa. Herman started his musical career in 1968. He performed with various local bands before being discovered by one of the top producers of the time, Strike Vilakazi.

He then signed with Gallo Music and worked with producers Lucky Dube and Richard Seluma.

After the Gallo contract ended he teamed up with ace producer, Don Laka, known for his work with the likes of Hugh Masekela, Bongo Maffin, Boom Shaka, Palesa, Mafikizolo and many others who have benefited from his experience as a musician and producer.

After signing with Bokone Music, Don changed Herman's career by releasing a CD, which marked a turning point, his solo career. The new CD, BATSAKILE is proving that the New African Music is in.

BATSAKILE, selling 2 000 copies, prior to release, is got to be the CD for 2004, and with its Cross-Over Feel, it is going to change New Music.
